Neutering
We recommend neutering of puppies from about 8 months of age, sometimes earlier for males, depending on breed. We recommend this for health reasons, as neutering reduces the risks of cancer and uterine infections in later life. As well as having a positive impact on behaviour. For advice on when to neuter, do call us for advice on 01736 330331.
Insurance
In order to give peace of mind in the early weeks of puppy ownership, we offer four weeks’ free insurance cover which can be initiated immediately after any examination by the vet. This is available to any uninsured puppy up to the age of one. The cover is provided with no obligation, simply allowing you time to research and decide on an insurer and policy of your choice. We recommend insurance as the best way of ensuring you have the best options available to you in the event of injury or illness. Please click here for more information about Insurance.
Puppy Club and Puppy Parties
Having a new puppy is an exciting time and these first few months of life have been shown to be a very significant developmental period as your puppy builds the foundations for lifelong social skills. Everyone at Mounts Bay Vets wants to help you give your puppy the best start you can, and our regular Puppy Parties provide a great space for social contact and learning, building up positive experiences that will help them develop confidence and trust.
In addition to the Puppy Parties, we run an online Puppy Club on facebook and by email – this contains freshly updated posts and videos relevant to your puppy’s journey.
Aims of our Puppy Classes:
- Familiarity with the veterinary surgery: To provide a positive introduction to the veterinary environment so that future visits will be as stress free as possible.
- Socialisation – to give your puppy the opportunity to meet and play with other puppies of similar age in a safe supported environment.
- Education – to provide you with as much help and advice as you need so that you can establish a lifelong bond with your puppy.
Puppy Parties and the Puppy Club cover a huge range of topics from nutrition and parasite treatment to toilet training and separation anxiety, social games and recall to lead-walking and travel.
A new Puppy Party series starts every month and comprises an initial one-to-one meeting with one of our veterinary nurses (in person or by telephone) followed by three hour-long evening sessions at the practice with a group of up to 6 puppies. For more information and to book onto a class, please call the practice on 01736 330331. Spaces are limited and the parties are very popular – we book on a first come first served basis.
