Tips for Keeping Your Pets Cool!
  • Always ensure your pet has access to cooler, shaded areas and allow for the sun moving overhead through the day.
  • Shallow paddling pools and canopy beds for use in the garden can help keep your pet comfortable in the summer sun
  • Pet cool mats, frozen toys/treats, pet cooling vests and bandanas are all readily available and can assist in keeping your pet cool and entertained in warmer weather
  • Oral hydration liquids with additional electrolytes can help rehydrate dogs in warm weather – please ask us for more information if this is something you are interested in having at home as a preventive (this should not be used daily as a replacement to fresh water)
  • Remember, dogs don’t sweat like we do – they only have sweat glands in the pads of their feet and therefore sweating is not an effective cooling method in dogs.  Panting is the main way they regulate heat, so ice cubes and frozen treats or chews are an ideal way to help them cool off!
  • Brachycephalic breeds such as bulldogs, pugs and boxers can be more prone to overheating due to reduced efficiency when they pant.  They may need extra help to keep cool therefore.
